Hainan Reform and Development Research Foundation Held a High-level Academic Lecture on "Climate Change and Sustainable Development"
On the morning of April 25, a high-level academic lecture on "Climate Change and Sustainable Development" hosted by the Hainan Reform and Development Research Foundation (HRDRF) was held at the China Institute for Reform and Development (CIRD). Liu Zhenmin, China's Special Envoy for Climate Change, gave an academic lecture on the topic of "Global progress and challenges in implementing the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals". Professor Chi Fulin, President of CIRD, hosted the event.
Liu Zhenmin gave an in-depth explanation on three aspects: "The historical background and contemporary requirements for formulating the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals", "The epoch-making significance of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals", and "Gaps and challenges in the implementation of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals".
Special Envoy Liu Zhenmin introduced the historical context of the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and its ten outstanding features. He said that this is the first comprehensive systemic reform agenda in human history, which cannot be managed by any single institution, and requires governments and social mobilization to implement. At present, the realization of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals faces three challenges: governance capacity, economic growth, and significant changes in the international environment. We must take it seriously and make up our minds to promote the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda in a pragmatic manner. Special Envoy Liu Zhenmin said that Hainan has unique conditions for implementing the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, and can take positive actions to take the lead in establishing a demonstration zone for sustainable development in the country.
After the special report, Special Envoy Liu Zhenmin interacted with the guests attending the meeting.
The event was hosted by the Hainan Reform and Development Research Foundation and attended by more than 80 representatives from government departments, universities and research institutions, enterprises, and chambers of commerce.
