On the afternoon of September 17, 2025, Professor Chi Fulin, President of the China Institute for Reform and Development (CIRD), led a delegation to visit the Jeju Research Institute (JRI). Professor YU Young-bong, President of JRI, extended a warm welcome to President Chi and the delegation, and the two sides held in-depth exchange.

President Chi Fulin noted that CIRD and JRI collaborated since 2016, a solid foundation for cooperation has been built. He put forward several proposals to further deepen bilateral cooperation:

1. Jointly conduct research on topics related to Hainan-Jeju cooperation, focusing on the common development needs and special research themes of the two regions;

2. Co-host academic forums to build a platform for ideological exchange and experience sharing between Hainan and Jeju;

3. Launch professional and technical personnel exchange programs;

4. Establish an academic information exchange mechanism to achieve efficient sharing of research resources;

5. Facilitate exchanges and mutual learning between business communities of the two regions, and build a bridge for industrial cooperation.

President YU Young-bong fully agreed with President Chi’s cooperation proposals. He emphasized that building a research-based and sustainable cooperative relationship between the two institutions is of great significance. He suggested that under the framework of institutionalized cooperation, the two sides should discuss a cooperation plan as soon as possible, and through targeted and pragmatic cooperation actions, play a more positive role in promoting the coordinated development of Hainan and Jeju.
